Can @ home. Pours like motoroil, a jet black colour and a dense light brown head with some retention. Aroma's of hard roasted malts, some red fruit, alcohol and fudge. Retronasal it's roasted, sweetish, drop/licorice, umami, red fruit. Flavour is moderate sweet, a bit umami, roasted and fruity. Alcohol feel is quite moderate considering it's 13% ABV. Body is full, mouthfeel smooth. Long finish with lots of chocolate. Nice stuff.

Got this one at Duvel Guy in Utrecht
From a can into a snifter
APPEARANCE: Syrupy clear black pour yields a one finger, medium looking, slightly fizzy tan head with good retention. Opaque black with no real carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a thin wisp. Touches of wisp remain leaving no real lacing down the glass, but a sticky, syrupy film coats the glass and falls after every drink.
SMELL: Roasted and burnt aromas, some earthy and leather character, as well as some port and red wine notes from the alcohol. Pretty interesting.
TASTE: Roasted and burnt malts up front, leather notes and some definite wine-like alcohol at the swallow. A burnt finish of roasted grain, leather, earthy qualities, some dark, pure chocolate, light cream flavors, notes of dark grapes and port wine linger on the palate.
PALATE: Fuller body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy and enough weight, goes down fine with a bit of a scratch and finishes rather mouth-coating. Some minor heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is tasty stuff all around. The burnt, leather and port notes from the alcohol work well together and the fuller, creamier palate provides good support for the show. Pretty good look to boot on this one. Van der Streek has been increasingly more impressive over the last year or so, making them probably my favorite brewer in the region here. Good stuff and worth checking out if you’re a fan of the style. Cheers!

This was a beast of a beer. Thick and full, with plenty of booze to go around. The taste is heavy as well, with licorice, coffee, hazelnut, cocoa, and a prevailing smokey peat through out. Hunker down with this in the winter, it will warm you up fast!
