Got this one from the vandestreek webshop. Cheers!
From a bottle into a snifter
APPEARANCE: Pours out black and yields a 1+ finger, medium looking, creamy tan head with solid retention. Black body with lower levels of carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a half wisp and ring. A swirly wisp remains until the end leaving touches of lacing down the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Lots of earthy aromas of peat, whisky and alcohol initially. Hints of chocolate and leather in there as well, but this is very heavy on the peated whisky.
TASTE: Peated flavors with some leather and chocolate notes up front, moving into a earthy, peated and whisky barrel finish. Bold aftertaste of whisky, earthy character, peated flavors, leather, dark chocolate, some vanilla notes and alcohol. This is rather well-balanced and flavorful. Good.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, a touch silky even, goes down very smooth with no bite and finishes a touch mouth-coating. A hint of heat lingers.
OVERALL: Good stuff for sure. The peated whisky barrel is done really well and the base stout is top notch. Good, creamy, silky feel on this one too. Peated barrels are hit or miss for me, as sometimes they can be overwhelming, but this one is right up my alley. Well done and definitely enjoyable. Give it a shot if you’re a fan of the style. Cheers!
