Got this from the Mitra in Maarsen. Cheers!
From a bottle into a snifter
Imperial stout with coffee, chocolate and vanilla
Beer Geeks Beat Ale
APPEARANCE: Transparent black pour yields a two finger, thicker looking, creamy, light tan head with excellent retention. Clear black body and no real carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full wispy, creamy cap and paints the sides of the glass with lacing. A decent wisp remains leaving lots of nice lacing down the glass as it empties. Color is a little weak but the head looks pretty nice on this one.
SMELL: Lots of sweet vanilla cream, milk chocolate, creamy, slightly roasted coffee and notes of butterscotch on the nose. Bold.
TASTE: Creamy vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted coffee flavors, butterscotch and toffee sweetness up front, with a good dose of roasted bitterness at the swallow. Flavorful. A big, bold and bitter finish of sweet vanilla, milk and pure chocolate, butterscotch, lots of bitter, roasted coffee, and a hint of alcohol.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Quite creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. No heat but lots of bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: This is solid stuff. The nose is pretty nice and flavor works too. Good looking cap and a creamy feel as well. I might say it’s a touch too bitter and the color is a little transparent for the style, but these are minor complaints. Quite enjoyed this and would gladly imbibe again given the chance. Worth checking out if you’re a fan of the style. Cheers!
