Got this from the webshop a while back. Cheers!
From a can into a snifter
Imperial stout with chocolate cake and vanilla
APPEARANCE: Syrupy clear black pour yields a one finger, medium looking, slightly creamy tan head with good retention. Opaque black with no real carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a thin wisp and clings to the glass. Touches of wisp remain leaving no real lacing down the glass, but a sticky, syrupy film coats the glass and falls after every drink. Solid look.
SMELL: Lots of vanilla and milk chocolate on the nose. Chocolate cake for sure. Roasted malts, toffee and butterscotch, with booze covered brownies in there as well. Bold and plenty desert-like.
TASTE: Vanilla, milk chocolate, booze covered brownies, with toffee, butterscotch and alcohol at the swallow. Bold finish of chocolate cake, vanilla, roasted malts, butterscotch, with plenty of bitterness and some alcohol lingering on the palate. Plenty bold with lots of desert character. Boozy chocolate cake with a solid roasted, bitter base. Good.
PALATE: Fuller body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy and enough weight, goes down fine with a bit of a scratch and finishes rather mouth-coating. Some minor heat lingers but it’s really well put together for 14% ABV. Just as good as the original.
OVERALL: This is excellent. The base beer is really good as it is, but the chocolate and vanilla additions are done really well here giving it the advertised desert character that pastry stouts are so well known for. Really well measured and decadent. VdS has been impressive over the last year or so and am certainly glad they’re more-or-less in my back yard. If you like the style, you’ll like this. Cheers!
