Got this one at the Bierkoning in Amsterdam

From a bottle into a snifter
Best before November 2016
Warrior and Bramling cross hops

APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown, almost black pour yields a 1 ½ finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with great retention. Black body with no real carbonation evident. Head eventually fades to a half wisp and ring. Slight wisp remains but no real lacing. Good looking overall.

SMELL: Dark fruits, grapes for sure, raisins, chocolate aromas, toffee and berries on the nose. Bold enough. Interesting stuff.

TASTE: Dark fruity sweetness up front, with chocolate and leather flavors at the swallow. A bolder and lingering finish of grapes, raisins, dates, leather, dark chocolate and lightly burnt grains. Nice stuff and quite fruity for an export stout.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly mouth coating. Good stuff here.

OVERALL: This is a fruit forward export stout with good notes of leather and cocoa in there. A good mouthfeel as well, making it an easy-drinker. This is a good brew overall and it’s well engineered, though for the style, I’d prefer a touch less fruit and a bit more dry cocoa from the chocolate malt. Not sure how much Bramling cross made it into this one, but perhaps those late additions could be toned back a bit. Still, this is quality stuff. Cheers!
