Inspired by the smoked märzen from Bamberg, Bål og Brand is part of our three beers celebrating the Oktoberfest. We used beech smoked barley malt from Bamberg to provide the smokey notes as well as some dark caramel malt and a touch of roasted barley for sweetness and color.
An often overlooked and forgotten style that we still enjoy drinking ourselves, so we decided that the Oktoberfest would be a great excuse to put a rauchbier in cans.

Copenhagen 12/1 2021. 44 cl can from Mikkeller webshop. Forest with a small industrial facility in the middle in different shades of grey on the can. Another feature in Ølsnedkeren’s series of German beer styles.
Pours slightly unclear dark copper with a small bubbly white head. Disappears after a few seconds. Leaving lonely patch of foam behind. No lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, malty odor mingling with a peaty smoky scent. Caramel and toffee. Salty licorice. Not overpowering odor of peat, smoke and lamp oil.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily, tingling texture.
Flavor is moderately intense with a medium strong sweetness followed a moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a smoky touch. Lingers shortly. Finish is semi-dry.
A bit thin take on a Rauchbier.
