A Cisco fisheye pint glass restrains four inches of foam that turns rocky as it slowly dissipates, leaving sticky, beige lace over a murky, old penny copper (SRM 16-17) beer with occasional carbonation.
The aroma opens with hoppy pine and light grapefruit. Both are fresh and pleasant, yet odd. Dankness comes over the hops at the end of each inhalation. Caramel malt and some bready characteristics mingle with light tea aromas.
The initial flavors are hop-centric, with grapefruit and prominent bitterness. Red Llama lacks balance. Super dry with light astringency that dominates a long finish.
A medium body with dry, fizzy carbonation and light alcohol. A scratchy nylon texture with astringency.
Each of the attributes of this beer open with high expectations, yet take unfortunate journeys, leaving one to suspect it needs fine tuning.
