Dark mixed culture sour ale aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels and refermented w/ blackberries. This complex sour features dark chocolate and roast notes from the malt bill, and vanilla notes from the bourbon barrels. Sharp acidity and dark berry flavors linger on the backend.

Thanks to Wil for putting Steel String on my radar.
Pours a dark reddish brown, thin skim that fades with no lace. Aroma is different, somewhat familiar. A wine-like barrel intensity. Taste is more fruit forward on the balsamic blackberry end, tannic barrel note. Medium bodied with low carb and a vinous feel. Overall good, though more funk and acidity would play well.

Note: Batch 1
A: Pours a clear, almost opaque very dark deep reddish brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and heavy garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy foamy tan head that reduces to a medium to large sized patch of thin film covering a little more than 50% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of tart blackberries and mixed culture sourness with a light to moderate aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, and hints of dark chocolate.
T: Upfront there is a light flavor of chocolate + roasted malts which is quickly overtaken by moderate to strong flavors of tart blackberries. Moderate to strong sour flavors from the mixed cultures and a light flavor of vanilla, bourbon, and oak. Moderate lingering acidic tartness.
M: Medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.
O: Very enjoyable, quite tart and sour with a really nice presence of fresh blackberries and darker malts. Easy to drink and definitely one I have been lucky enough to enjoy a couple of time.
