Pint on draught at the brewery. It pours a hazy, golden-honey with a creamy, milk-white head and thick, soapy lacing. The smell is malt-forward with resinous pine needles and a whiff of grapefruit. The taste opens with dry malt and bitter, biting Galaxy and Mosaic hops. At mid-sip there is fruit: grapefruit, lemon, white grape, and pineapple. It finishes clean and decidedly bitter. The mouth feel is medium-bodied with pleasant carbonation, and the 8.3% ABV (lower than what appears in the BA description) gives it lots of substance. Overall, this is a really nice, southern-style DIPA with lots of malt and lots of bitter hops. There's enough fruit to add an additional dimension. It's a very good rendition of the style. I really enjoyed it.

Pours a nice deep amber, not much of a head, but leaves a sticky lacing behind. Smell typical for an east coast DIPA - pineapple, mango, juicy tropical fruit. Some alcohol but expected from the ABV. Taste to match - fruity, juicy, but brought back to earth by some fresh hop bitterness. Carbonation cuts through, small but clear. Creamy finish. Highly enjoyable brew.

L: Consumed from bottle.
S: Fruity and citrus aroma.
T: Nice punch of piney bitterness that lingers. Alcohol is well hidden.
F: Medium body. Dry.
O: Nice DIPA but missing something. Would be interested in trying other Steel String offerings based on this experience.

Poured on tap in a goblet, the beer is a slightly hazed, yellow-copper coloring with a halo of white, foamy head. Aromas of subtle caramel, pineapple, and a subtle resinous hops character. Flavors are more malt forward, with a roasted overtone blending with a caramel and toffee backbone. Subtle piny highlights, with some citrus tart and sweet accents. Balanced, on a smooth, robust body. The aftertaste leans back to the citrus side, with tart and sweet lingers of grapefruit and roasted caramel. Slick, slightly tart and slightly bitter lingering finish. Good beer.
