Our second double IPA features New Zealand Green Bullet hops and USA Mosaic hops. Sweet peach, fruit cocktail aroma and flavor with a green/earthy tone. Modest bitterness. Some might say this beer has dank-like qualities, hence the reference to Humboldt. We lived in Humboldt County, CA while Steve was head brewer for Lost Coast Brewery in 2009 - 11 and we were in the Humboldt Mountain Range in New Zealand when we got engaged in 2004.

A rather good DIPA. Nice mosaic hops but they are not as prominent as they could have been. Easily Roundabout's best offering (when I was there at least).

Thoughts: Was down at Roundabout this past week for the release of their bourbon barrel old ale - Heini's Good Cheer. They had this on tap and I loved it, so grabbed a growler to go. This is full of Green Bullet (which I have no prior experience with) and Mosaic hops.
Appearance - Humboldt Range takes on the appearance of turbid, Northeastern IPA. There isn't much to see because of how cloudy it is, but the color is a bright orange and the head is a foamy, bone-white creme.
Aroma - The smell of hops wafts into the air even without having to stick my nose into the glass. They are pungent and incredibly fruity, with notes of tropical juice and syrupy peach. There's a distinct dankness as well that adds a resin-like twist.
Taste - Humboldt Range is an excellent exercise in hop utilization. It is pumped full of them but doesn't contain much bitterness at all, instead opting for the fresh-squeezed characteristics. It almost tastes like grapefruit / mango / pineapple juice with a boozy finish. A pine and slightly vegetal note comes up in the end to remind you that this is a hoppy ass beer.
Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel is pretty thick with a heavy weight on the palate. It is slightly sticky or syrupy and makes each sip linger well after finishing.
Closing Arguments - If there is one style that Roundabout excels in, it is IPAs, and this is just another feather in that particular cap. This is the type of IPA that showcases the hops in their flavor without just using them as a bittering ingredient, and I feel confident that I could give this to someone who doesn't typically like IPAs and they could appreciate it because it doesn't assault the palate.

This was my first green bullet hopped beer, and I was not disappointed. The beer is a cloudy, deep yellow color. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. First taste matches the smell but is immediately followed by a piney bitterness. This beer is unique but in a good way. Well done.

Pours completely cloudy . Thick creme head. Nose was very strong citrus tones when I cracked the growler open, and you get it after the pour, but it does fade. Flavor brings a very smooth and easy drinking hop experience. Really elegant citrus tones with a very mild earthy accent. Mango is clearly there. The tropical fruits are what's in the most abundance. Smooth. That is the word of the day here. You couldn't ask for a much smoother DIPA. Great beer!
