Belgian-style Imperial Porter
This beer is a dark sexy one. Light- to mid-khaki color on the head with a shimmering black body. It looks lovely in the Belgian tulip, even as the lace dissipates the sharp contrast of colors appeals to me.
Dark fruitiness and some bold orange peel smack my nose, there's a hint of coffee and some dark chocolate too. A bit of zesty spice too. It's impressive how fruity this smells.
All types of flavors continue on the tongue and bring different waves. First I get a sharp tart date or fig flavor, then some spices, and then a thick blast of dark chocolate that camps out on my tongue. The oakiness finally makes an appearance and gives a wine-like taste that isn't immediately apparent.
With all this fruit and chocolate, I keep thinking I'm eating a cordial of some sort. The well-buried alcohol does nothing to disabuse me of this sensation. The mouthfeel is thick until a slight astringency hits at the finish.
Yet another gem from Duel. To me, these guys make the most interesting, and still delicious, beers in the state.
