Ive never knowingly had a beer that was served to me on a mix of 75% nitro and 25% CO2 propellant, but this is how West Brothers served me their stout. It seemed to work just fine, although I noted that as the head on my beer subsided, the body itself was none too carbonated.
West Brothers Stout is a heavy, coal black brew with a lush roasted aroma. It smells roasted to the threshold of nearly being burnt, but with no unwanted carbonized scent. There are also intense notes of toffee. The pint I drank was served almost at room temperature with a dense espresso head that trailed a full wall of lace. The taste was full and luxurious with deep flavors of chocolate and lots of coffee and cream. A slight touch of mint could also be discerned while the mouthfeel spoke of high gravity.
This stout won gold at the GABF in 2001. It is indeed a damn fine beer; hearty and proud.
