A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden/orange color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, floral, earthy. Taste is herbal, malts, some floral notes, a bit unusual aftertaste. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

I am elated that The Vineyard and Brewery at Hershey has recently begun CANning their beers for inclusion in The CANQuest (tm)! The FGBS has gotten four of them & while I missed adding this one, I get credit for the approved picture. I am a Central PA resident by birth & a proud member of the 717 posse. Bring it on, yo!
From the CAN: “Store Cold*Drink Fresh*Please Recycle”; "A refreshing American Pale Ale made with Jarrylo hops and PA grown and malted barley from Deer Creek Malthouse."
I Crack!ed open the vent & CANmenced a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. Once acCANplished, an in-glass swirl raised two-plus fingers of foamy, rocky, light-tan head with modest retention that left some lacing in its wake. Color was Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a pronounced malty presence, very earthy with a lemony citrusiness underneath. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste was more malty than hoppy, more akin to an English Pale Ale and certainly not up to the standard bearer held by this style - SNPA. It was not bad, per se, but it just came off as an exercise in futility. If you are not going to make an SNPA, then you need to expect that you will be judged accordingly. Finish was semi-dry & while it was pleasant, it was nothing to get worked up about.

I had this at River House in Middletown, served chilled in a pint on tap.
The color is deep amber with light colored off white head with fine bead and stringy lace. The smell is slightly malt forward with toast in the aroma and light floral/herbal hop smell. The feel is slightly dry with moderate diacetyl -high for the style otherwise I would not mention it. The texture of caramel mid palate with mild bitterness as it finishes medium dry.
The taste has a slight slick quality with dry effect of light malt with gentle sweetness up front with slight citrus/herbal hop flavor and mild toast in the malt profile with light diacetyl distracting from the malt and hops as it finishes dry. This is okay but I can't say I would order it again. After 1/2 pint through I wished I had ordered something else-just average, not horrible beer but could use some hops to add depth and the diacetyl/toast seem heavy for the style.
