We’ve brought our favorite hops to this resinous party. This big beer is hopped to the max with layers of pine oil, tropical fruit, citrus and blueberries. A pale malt backbone supports hopping rates of 8 lbs per barrel.

Look: Clear and slightly reddish-orange with a silky head that erupts to the rim, holds, and pulls back to a lid, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Pine sap and needles, white grapefruit, Cara cara orange, lemons, bready malt, and fir needles
Taste: Starts out with orange-like fir needles and pine that hit with strength and soon joined by a wave of citrus fruit. Grapefruit, orange, kumquats, and lemons all in play and go back and forth with conifers all atop a nice malt base until it closes with a bite
Mouthfeel: Full, lightly slick, medium-high carbonation, and finishes with noticeable dryness
Overall: This is some good stuff. I haven’t had this in years so was pumped when my dad hooked me up with a single as I remembered liking it then and still do. This is a somewhat classic WCDIPA with strong citrus and conifer notes throughout and with a substantial malt bill to hold it all together. Me likely and recommended

Pineapples! Got that DANK with a dry, rind finish. Just a polished beer with everything in its place. Sunriver Brewing is humble but knows their sh*t.

Served in 13oz Teku. Poured a lightly hazy honey gold color, with an inch of of white head that had moderate retention and very good lacing.
A big citrusy hop blast is the first scent to hit your nose, with a light grainy malt aroma underneath. Nearly identical on the tongue, with a very nice hoppy, bitter bite at the back end.
The body was medium-full for the style, and had a nicely dry finish. Drinkability was very good. In fact, I made a point of going back to the same bar two days in a row to get some. Overall, a very good beer. Not quite a must try, but pretty damn close.

On tap the Bier Stein. This has pretty much all you could want in a DIPA, as there's plenty of dry citrus, dank weed and pine, on both the nose and palate. Finish is bitter and fairly dry, balancing the sweetness and tropical fruit flavors very nicely. My only complaint, is that it's a bit boozy, for a beer that's abv. is "only" 8.5. Otherwise, is a significant improvement over everything else I've had from Sunriver so far.
Edit from 4/23/19. Just tried the current version last weekend at Hopheads in Woodinville, and if anything it's better than the version I sampled at Bierstein several years ago. The balance of hoppy bitterness and sweet malt is just exceptional in this beer, and the beer is dangerously drinkable for an 8.5% abv. DIPA. This is a beer I'll likely order anytime I see it on a beer menu.
