Excellent hop-malt balance…slightly hop centric as expected (though for those who value a malt presence - it’s surely there). Luscious mouthfeel for a relatively low ABV ale. Appreciate that it’s easily available fresh and priced at a couple bucks per can.

SUNRIVER BREWERY – RIPPIN PALE ALE 6%abv
I have had this beer for years but I don’t think I have rated it. It wins awards every year and I can see why. It a light FAVable fruit forward Pale with a light apple and brook plumb back ground that is free of any bitterness and would be a great beer to introduce to a new craft drinker.

Draft at CopenRoss. Medium golden, small head. Again, I was disappointed with this brew. Grainy, dry, flat, bitter. Nothing much here. Was expecting better.

Sustained, moderate, white head. Almost entirely clear, medium gold look. Mixture of grapefruit peel, floral and medium light toasted barley malt, for the aroma. A little light in body and flavor levels. Very light amount of grapefruit peel bite and pretty well balanced out with caramelized, medium light toasted malt, for the flavor. A mellow grapefruit peel finish.

Fresh can.

A clear light orange with a dense off-white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is clean and fruity with bright citrus, a mildly cooked orange note, a fruity yeast expression. A soft, doughy grain character is present. The palate opens with a blend of melon, cooked orange, mild floral notes. Moderate bitterness, drying, clean and fruity. Mild malt notes. Easy drinking.

Look: Slightly opaque light orange with a good-looking head that quickly forms and settles just as fast, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Sugar-coated strawberries, blueberries, pine, mandarins, light papaya & passionfruit, fir needles, Cannabis, and some sweet bready malt
Taste: Pine, berries, and Cannabis come roaring out of the gate with citrus and tropical fruit notes poking in occasionally before going all into the fray. Bready and sweet malt is ever-present as well and closes like it started – weed, pine, and berries
Mouthfeel: Full, very lightly slick, medium-high carbonation, and ever-so-slightly dry on the finish
Overall: This is delicious and unsurprisingly so. This was my very first Sunriver beer I ever tried years ago and is still my favorite of their entire lineup as it’s a tasty pale ale that almost has the hop presence of an IPA. The hop bill is right up my alley too along with the mouthfeel and though 6% ABV is on the high side for a pale ale, it’s on the lower end for an IPA so I feel is perfect for getting that hop fix without the ABV punch

Normally not a huge fan of Left Coast IPAs and I have a bit of hop palate fatigue but this is really hitting the spot for me tonight! I think it’s the piney finish. Very well done!

Golden ale, clear and sparkling. Thin head, some legs. Some light piney aromas, not too much else. A nice sipping pale ale, well defined bitterness and a pleasant malt base. A good APA is as much about balance as anything else and Sunriver has done a great job of it. Clean taste, lingering with no off notes.

Appearance: Pours clear and golden, with a one finger head; good retention and streaky lacing

Smell: Piney and herbal with a hint of mint; caramel undertones

Taste: Caramel flavors underpin, with the resinous hops emerging; moderately bitter with a hint of mint; piney finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A good old-fashioned APA

Thanks, philhyde, for the opportunity

Six pack of cans picked up at Total Wine in Lynnwood, Washington.
Canned on 08/26/19. Poured in to a pint glass.

Look- Very slightly hazy golden orange color, decent white head that recedes slowly, good amount of spotty lacing. Little carbonation streaming as it sits.

Smell- Citrus (Grapefruit, orange, tangerine and lemon), light pineapple, pine, bready malts, light herbal/floral notes.

Taste- Nice citrus like the aroma, a good bit of tropical notes with a solid malt backbone, a little tangy.

Feel- Medium/light bodied, crisp with a lingering light bitterness, nicely balanced. Moderate carbonation on the tongue.

O- A nice session pale ale, basic but tasty. Worth checking out.

12oz can

Pours nearly two fingers of off white head into my can-style glass. Retention is very good, after a few minutes, I've only lost one finger. Body is a dark burnt orange, with hues of gold. Visibility is low, but I can see a lot of bubbles coming up. Looks very nice so far.

Nose is nothing to write home about. Some lemon, citrus, a little pine. Pretty simple, not bad.

Flavor is slightly malty at first, then leads into a medium bitterness and a somewhat subdued hop profile. Not much citrus, a little bit piney. Just a touch fruity as it warms. I recall this beer having a much bigger hop presence, oh well. Not a bad flavor, balanced, but pretty safe here.

Mouthfeel is ok. Carbonation is noticeably low, for a style that really shouldn't be. Body is medium - light. Bitterness is medium aforementioned. A little sweet, but generally well balanced. Overall pretty good, but the lack of carbonation creates a bigger problem in an otherwise put together mouthfeel.

Very drinkable. Tasty, balanced, and not offensive.

Appearance turned out wonderful. Head hung around as a sliver of foam all the way down the glass. Lacing was stellar from top to bottom.

On one hand this is balanced and crushable. On the other hand, I recall it having more flavor, which would really set it apart from an average pale ale. Good beer, we'll leave it at that.
