9 August 2020 - Beer #161
Price: $17.99 at Hop City in Atlanta
Appearance: 5 - very black with a frothy tan head.
Nose: 5 - nearly all barrel, which is just fine with me. The barrel is attacking my nose.
Taste: 1 - no no no no no. I don't know what's happening here. It is NOT infected, but the flavor is totally off. It's like very old, stale, bitter coffee.
Mouth: 4 - ugh, can't believe I had to take a couple more sips to get the mouth feel. Kinda thin, but pleasantly frothy.
Overall: 2 - first drain pour in a long time. It was a good streak. Let's start another one tomorrow.
Cheers!

Poured into a pint glass. A nearly opaque brown on the pour with a medium sized dark tan head. Great foam retention especially for a BA stout. Interesting aroma with rye barrel notes that blended into more Belgian fruity notes. Faint chocolate and roasted grain was also there. The taste followed fairly closely - whiskey up front followed by a silky chocolate flavor. Fruity notes like plum and cherry were there in the background. The feel was slightly heavier than medium and I liked it - not too thin but also not pastry stout-thick. Overall very interesting as the Belgian notes played well with the rye barrel. Thanks to JBowenGeorgia for this one!

Nice rye whiskey bite on the nose, a bit spicy with a good milk chocolate and cocoa base. Mouthfeel is slightly thinner than I'd like, but the flavours are all there in good complexity with a nose to accompany it.
