Appearance: Clear dark brown with ruby red highlights, fluffy off white head with good retention
Aroma: Oak wood, chocolate and toast notes.
Flavor: Oak wood upfront, malty with chocolate and toasty note in the middle, mild bitterness at the end. Low to moderate sweetness
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, medium astringency, dry at the finish. Moderate length finish.
Overall: Nice, old world spin on an English Brown Ale. American White Oak flavor adds another dimension to the flavor. It does sort of overshadow the Brown Ale characteristics but that is okay because you know that going in. Initially a little sweet, it finishes dry with a moderate to high level of astringency, which is notable from hops bitterness. Good winter beer, drink it by a warm fire. I like it.
