Beer is not retired. Just had it 2/15/19 at Beer Army Burger Company.

On tap 12 oz in tulip glass. A thin off white head with a reddish brown bottle. Nice malty aroma. Flavor is well balanced with sweet, rich malt, caramel, along with some hops in the finish. Quite good and paired well with burger.

Appearance: Clear dark tarnished copper with hints of red when held up to the light. A thin white ring of foam at the edge and an occasional very thin finger of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Toasted malt, a bit sweet, a hint of butter (diacetyl), and a faint amount of tea-like leafy hops.

Taste: True to style of this beer with a nice malt backbone and leafy tea-like bittering hops, but I feel like the flavors across the board have been dialed down a notch. It's surprisingly muted. There is also a hint of diacetyl every now and then during the sips, mostly at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, dry finish.

Overall / Drinkability: I think this beer held to style just fine, but I feel the bottle is either old (possible) or when the brewer made it, there was more color that came along than flavor and aroma. It's a toned down Irish red. True to style, just not as pleasing in flavor.

 

 

Pours a deep amber/brown with a sticky half finger off white crown.Aromas of brown sugar and caramel mainly.Spot on for the style on the palate with it's light kilned roast and brown sugar-like sweetness,some caramel lingers in the finish.It's a malt driven Irish Red wich you don't see much right now,not much hop presence but it's very good for the style.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Interesting mild smoked flavor that complements the red ale style. Could use some more sweetness or spice and more body, but the flavor is still unique and enjoyable. Very easy to drink a couple of these without it becoming fatiguing. Glad I tried this. A nice session beer.

 

A: Pours a crystal clear reddish amber in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and some dark copper + garnet red highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy beige head that reduces to a mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of caramel malts with a light touch of tannins as well as some light notes of earthy hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of caramel malts with very light amounts of sweetness and a light to moderate amount of tannins. That is followed by a light flavor of earthy hops and almost of hint of woodiness. Light amounts of bitterness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Clean.

O: Pretty well balanced and easy to drink at just 5% ABV though not the most interesting of brews. I could have a couple of these in a session and they match pretty well with foods but not something I'm going to run out to find again.
