A barrel-aged wild quad with Balaton cherries. It pours a dark brown with ruby-purple highlights, murky, and with only a thin layer of head. Quite tart, with an interesting blend of somewhat subdued Belgian quad notes, sour acidity reminiscent of an oud bruin, and cherry.

Something about this just doesn't work for me. Looks good, smell alright, the pretty rusty foam vanishes too quickly but not a big deal. The taste however. Lots of competing flavors that to me are out of harmony. When the mix gets to room temperature it's at its best. But the sweet, the sour and the bitter are all pulling in different directions. For me they never really come together.

Poured from 750mL bottle into my Kasteel goblet.

Appearance: dark amber-brown hue with plenty of murk and a thin layer of fizzy tan foam atop. Color is nice, although more head with better retention would be really pretty.

Smell: tartness, cherry, oak, vanilla; there's a lot of good stuff going on here. The sweetness and quintessentially quad character are subtler compared to these other aromas, but overall it's very, very good.

Taste: very tart right up front but quickly subsiding into a smooth, sweetish flavor that reminds me more of a good Oud Bruin than a quad. However, that's not a bad thing -- the natural cherry, raisin and tobacco character really combines well with the added cherry here. Great stuff.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a decent carbonation and a smooth creaminess.

Overall: I like this beer rather a lot. In fact, the more I sip, the more it grows on me; I think that as my palate acclimates to the tartness, I get more of the great underlying quad. Great!

Pours dark rusty brown with a quarter-inch khaki head that remains as a thin cap on top and leaves thick spots of lace. Cherries, plums, raisins and red wine aromas. The taste follows with tart cherries, plum skins, sweet raisins and a Lambrusco sweet dessert wine finish. Medium texture with medium carbonation. Quad/ Flanders red hybrid. Sour, sweet, dark and decadent.
