Can as extra in trade courtesy of JohnnyHopps.
Dark amber nice thick lacy head.
Smell is dominated by sweet Belgian candied sugar.
Taste is too sweet and boozy for me.
There’s some fig, vanilla and oak. Possibly wine. Could only sip small amounts.
Medium mouthfeel.
Could use some refining or maybe just not my style. It’s hard to know exactly what they were shooting for.

Ruby brown hue to the body; decent head, one-finger thick with some rings of foam and lacing along the glass. Musty aroma with some predominant sherry or light port notes; red wine. Wine-like flavor with notes of caramel; a bit sweet with some tannin-like qualities. Medium body with a somewhat flat character despite some minor fizzy qualities; seems thin; an initial sweetness gives way to a long dryness at the finish.

Well, I can't say this was all that great for a base Belgian dubbel aged in muscatel barrels. One certainly gets the wine-like quality infused in the beer, but the beer as a whole lacks depth and mouthfeel. It certainly is passable, but perhaps only for one visit.

Pours an effervescent chestnut with a thumb of tan head. Some lacing, head eventually fades away

S: Grapes, raisins, vanilla

T: Boozey figs with raisin, red grape, dryness, leafy & woody hops up front. Figs, Concord grapes, woody dryness & leafy hops with a little cinnamon as this warms. Finishes dry & figgy with a little cherry & vanilla & candi-sugar

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, warming

Good take on the style, this would certainly be a nice fire side sipper

12oz canned 6/12/19 (one month ago) poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 8.5% ABV 20 IBU. The beer pours bright medium brown in color with ruby highlights and short lived light brown head. The head fizzles away to a pencil thin ring and a few stray miniature bubbles. The aroma is rich with cocoa, red grapes and a touch of alcohol. The taste is some cola and cocoa like the base Deduction, with red wine, slight oak and some earthy notes. Little bitterness, but not sweet. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, good. I don't feel the wine barrel adds as much depth to the base dubbel that the bourbon barrel edition. Worth a try and enjoyable, but not a huge step away from base Deduction at twice the price.
