12oz canned 11-4-24, opened 1-11-25.
1 finger sand colored head with minimal retention. Dark brown body with no light penetrating. Thin and wispy lacing.
Big, bold nose full of fresh ground, dark roast coffee and cherry.
Fresh, rich coffee, malty, red fruit, sweet vanilla, and a hint of booze in the finish. Unique and delicious.
Medium body, some heat but a smooth mouthfeel. Roasty, lengthy and dry finish.
Wish I bought more than 1 can.
Outstanding.

A: The beer is essentially black in color - only traces of dark brown are visible near the corner of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a quarter finger high light beige head that died down and left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of coffee beans along with strong underlying notes of cocoa nibs and dark fruits with hints of candi sugar and vanilla.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer was a very interesting combination of a Belgian-inspired ale with lots of coffee and other types of flavors that you would normally expect in a stout.

L: A deep dark mahogany with a 4:1 khaki head to beer ratio. Took a lot of settling and left some spotty lace behind.

S: A double brown for sure, a bitter cold brew coffee and caramel malt. Highly roasted and tamed by vanilla.

T: Taste follows the nose. In the top couple I’ve had for the style.

F: Nicely done. Could always be thicker, but it’s nicely rich and smooth. Good carbonation as well.

Update: I don’t do blends often as it was not the brewer’s intent, but I gotta say that three parts of this brew to one part Fremont Dark Star (reg), really nailed it. I cannot stop sighing as I drink!

Taxman Imperial Bean Counter was a surprising find. The beer is marked 3/5/2020 so it was just brewed and I found it at Big Red's in Indiana. I got this 4 pack for $6.50 after tax! The shop was having a sale, as this would normally run $11.00.

I have had Taxman offerings before, but I've been a bit on the fence. However, IBC is unexpected, and fantastic. The beer pours black, like Chimay Blue or any other dark Belgian. I was confused at first given the brown ale description, but with the addition of coffee, it all makes sense. You could honestly get this into the stout category given its texture and depth of flavor.

The beer was tremendous body for a brown ale and the nose is big time coffee. The taste is easy drinking, but full of flavor, with vanilla, coffee, and caramel. The vanilla is very present even though the can doesn't have it as a main flavor. The side description does though, and I enjoy the vanilla and coffee blend.

I will monitor Taxman more closely after this purchase, the beer is great overall.
