Triple tasting of Deadline variants, 12oz can from Tavour. Near black pour with fine bubbly ring. Blackberry aroma, jam, some boozy notes at the back. Taste is fruity and sweet, roast malts coming behind with a little bitterness, then alcohol warmth. Smooth, lingering heat on the palate.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a fizzy, very dark mahogany brown with a thin khaki head that dissipates to a ring around the glass with slight lacing. Aroma of blackberry puree, mild cocoa and a hint of wood; malt subdued. Flavor is blackberry juice, milk chocolate, brandy, hints of Belgian yeast; a little wood and mild hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. The aroma was so blackberry forward, I was wondering if there was going to be stout malt present in the taste. Instead the first part of the sip is much like a chocolate with blackberry brandy inside, although the brandy takes over at that point and hints of both the Belgian yeasts and the chocolate malt assert themselves, finishing with woody barrel character. I'm not a big fan of fruit in stouts, but expected that the natural fruitiness of Belgian style stouts would moderate that and have to say I'm a fan of this one. Hard to get much of the base Deadline stout malt here, but it does add nice chocolate and supports the strong blackberry quite well. I like this and would get it again, not that I'll ever see it. .
