Bad Tom is a medium bodied ale with rich reddish-brown color, a small tan head and a fruity aroma. With an essence of toasted malt combined with candied nuts and a light caramel flavor, the smooth texture is finely balanced with a blend of hops and an unforgettable clean finish. The result is an all-around balanced beer with the most important ingredient of all— GREAT TASTE!

At the brewery.
Dark amber with a khaki head, massive patches of lace.
Malty with a slight sweetness. Notes of caramel.

This starts with a hefty amount of chocolate malt, some smoky char, burnt coffee and roasted bean. It ends with some tobacco, brewed coffee and malt. I like this a lot but it could have been so much more.

On tap. 8-31-14. Boston shaker.
A: Pours a light brown with reddish tints. Looks very much like a darker pale ale. Little carb. 1/8" beige head, little lacing but decent retention.
S: Slight roastiness; touch of bittering, earthy hops. Familiar "brown ale" roasty/flinty scent.
M: Decent carbonation on this one; moderate. Solidly mid-weight.
T: Dry arrival, dry across mid-palate with characteristic roastiness; then a big, earthy bittering hop finish. A summer-appropriate brown ale.
O: I tend to prefer my brown a little sweeter, but this is right-on in terms of good hoppiness.
