As far as porters go this is the weakest that I've had. Similar to other B.B.'s on-tap brews they were wimpy little versions of craft beers. This one had very subtle dark qualities of smoke and coffee but they were so faint that it wasn't porter-ish in the least to me. More like a lite beer with a splash of a real porter like Mac's Black Watch or an Anchor to give it color and body. Unlike other reviewers I didn't find it to be thick whatsoever and was pretty irritated by the end of my meal at how medicore this and the sampler beers were. Despite my three rating it should be noted that 99% of the porters I've had get at least a 4 rating so it's more like a 2 than a 3.

All things considered this was a pretty average Porter. I happen to like the average porter so it suited me wonderfully; though if you are looking for a beer that shows off glamorously, you may find this one to be simple.

Appearance: Looked opaque black (in the patio lighting) and it pour a nice 2-3 finger head.

Smell: Typical dark roasted malts and a hint of butter, simple but appealing.

Taste: Again this is a very straight forward American Porter. It has suggestion of chocolate malts and some burnt dryness maybe a suggestion of charcoal and coffee in there too. Upon close inspection there was a bit of diacytel but not overbearing.

Mouthfeel: Light feel in the mouth, for a porter, but it had decent carbonation, and a dry bitter finish.

Drinkability: I think this is a standard Porter for people who like the standard porter. It is the Folgers of coffee. Not bad, just not quite gourmet either. I enjoyed it.

Dark brown / black color, medium head and lacy white carbonation is present at the top of the glass. Scent of cocoa and coffee were noted first, as were hints of staleness, but that may be what they were going for. This brew has a thick texture, more so that most porters, but had acceptable flavors of earth and hops. Aftertaste was a bit bitter, but not over powering. Worth a try, but this is not my cup of tea, or glass of beer.

Brilliantly clear dark chestnut with a trace of ruby at the edges, forming a thin light tan head with good retention and sparse lacing. Aroma begins with more vinegar and dirty tap lines, faint coffee, some chocolate malt, fusel alcohols. Taste begins with fusel alcohols, followed by a ruddy herbal bitterness, weak truck-stop coffee, dirty grains, earthy and herbal hops. The finish has a nasty bitterness and is dry. Mouthfeel is sharp with a medium light body and very thin for the style. Have to watch the costs of putting a little more grain in a beer, heaven forbid!
Horrible for the style. If promethean means boldy creative, then I suppose this passes...but so does putting candles in a turd and serving it for birthday cake.
