Poured from a bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Dark mahogany pour... nearly black with 2 fingers of foamy brownish head. Great retention and lacing.
S: Dark roasted grains... piney hops and malt sweetness.
T/F: Follows the nose. Deeply roasted grains... slightly sweet burned sugars and malts. Well balanced bitterness between the roast and generous hopping. Piney and herbal. A bit of coffee and cocoa to boot. Creamy on the mouthfeel... medium to light bodied.
O: Refreshing and tasty... drinks a little more like a stout/porter than an IPA but hops definitely there and noticeable. Really nice beer.

Do you ever whisper to yourself as the rain hammers down, small sweet words you heard once as a child? The call of winter beckons and you wrap yourself in memories; thoughts once deserted now come back to visit your weary mind. And so comes the bittersweet and viscous flow of stout, to beckon in the rain and wash away the havoc of a winter workday. I went in search of stout and this is what I found. And I tasted it, and smiled. It is not the finest of its style, but it calms the tongue with passion, and satisfies the longing within. A rush of chocolate, a glimmer of cherry sweetness, and dense punch of raisin in the finish. It's a rich, thick brew, sharp with hop bitterness but drenched still in the smoke of forgotten times. Am I happy? The question itself is foolish. But against the rising tide of dread I stand and satiate my soul with these paltry liquid comforts, and sometimes, perhaps, it is enough.

Pours a dark black with brown, foamy head.
Lots of roasty malts in the smell. Some citrusy hops come through. Chocolate, coffee, maybe a bit of licorice.
Those roasty flavors come though big in the taste. More grassy and citrusy hops than I expected from the smell. Some chocolate/coffee flavors linger in the aftertaste. Some sweet flavors that I could've done without sneak in as the beer warms.
Medium bodied, though lighter than I expected. Medium carbonation. Refreshing black IPA.
This is a very nice double black IPA from Coachella, a style that I really enjoy. I like the beers I've tried from this brewery. Not every one has been a hit, but they are frequently willing to step out of the box.

Fresh & Easy growler. Filled 3/16/15. 8% ABV per the label.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, char, cocoa powder, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, cookie dough, char, and slight citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a great mix of cocoa and citrus forward hop characteristics all around.
Serving type: growler.
