Picked this up at one of the best beer stores ever, Bierhalle Deconinck. Murky mahogany-brown pour that was unfortunately a gusher. Managed to get it into a glass before I lost too much as this is becoming a trend with this brewery. The nose is boozey and sour with a strong mineral odor. Malt forward with hints of dark fruit, caramel, balsamic vinegar, and toffee with subtle vinous notes as well. The taste is also strong with minerals and very sour for the style. Hints of brown sugar, dark fruits, caramel, balsamic vinegar, and a strong vinous character. Little evidence of the barrel or the Makers Mark. The mouthfeel is very tart and tangy with fizzy carbonation and a dry, bittersweet finish. Overall, I'm pretty sure this beer was infected. There was talk about it on facebook and at the last beer fest I attended. With that said, I rather enjoyed it for what it was, albeit probably not what the brewer intended. Loved the sourness and vinous notes. Difficult to rate, but still enjoyable.
