Totally shocked by this offering. Their other IPA 's are terrible, and that's not because they have to compete locally with Hill Farmstead, NEBCO and Tree House.
Has a malt profile similar to a Berliner-Weisse, and definitely has some sour activity. I had brought a cellared Supplication to share, and I could definitely tell my the sour portion of my tongue had been activated already. It is actually an awesome idea, a sour IPA. I think it was an accident though.
It looks beautiful, although it was a small tasting glass, and you really want to see a lot of it in the light. Color was a very crisp shade however.
Smells great, and tastes great. Would definitely be able to hang in a blind tasting with the big boys, Abner, PTY etc. Nice bite, strong and creamy and the middle, AND it has a bitter and sour aftertaste. Its like sweet and sour chicken, but not sweet nor chicken.
I honestly cant believe it was so good, I dont even know if they can recreate it. It had a subtle bit of weisse sour, and a strong hop profile. Ive had basically everything of note in the IPA/IIPA department except Double Sunshine, and its top 5 or 6, but at 5 or 6. Surprisingly good stuff, and had to write a review regarding that. Not a homer, I'm actually transplanted to New England.
Note: I had this same batch about 4 or so weeks later and it was a complete mess. The bitter hop and sour balance was completely gone. Definitely has a short life expectancy, short like a houseflies.
