Dark crimson tone in the light, looks reddish amber when poured. Sharp clarity, steady rising carb trails. Head lasts about 2 minutes as it audibly fizzles away. A thin ring at the edge remains.
Aroma is wine barrel forward, red grapes and oak. A little like concord grape jam or apple butter, there’s a slight sweetness perceived in the nose.
Bracingly acidic at first, with a slight acetic sting. Jammy red grapes, dry oaky aftertaste. Very fruit forward, though the acidity scrubs away the dark fruit of the grapes quickly. Some tannins from the grape skins, cider vinegar, and an earthiness that lends some depth of flavor. Well carbed and very sour, like the majority of their sour output. The extreme sourness is fatiguing, but the beer is otherwise pretty tasty. More of a Flanders Red than Oud Bruin, very fruity and red in color. The label describes it as a “Barrel aged Bruin American Wild Ale”.
