A fairly well put together black IPA. Hops are present but not overboard by any means. The overwhelming profile I get is of the roasty malts, something of a pumpernickel rye bread feel going on here. There is a tangerine/mandarin type note that brings a little something extra to this ale.

Served in a tumbler at Mundelein Brewfest 2014.
Staying put with Temperance to try out my second black IPA of the day (more to follow, of course). It pours a clear midnight sienna topped by a finger or so of sandstone foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, light treacle, pine sap, and a touch of candied orange peel. The taste brings in more of the same, the roast in the forefront of everything, the pine its own Zero Mustafa-style second. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a mostly smooth feel. Overall, a nice black IPA, a bit unbalanced in favor of the roast, but it's still decently enjoyable.
