barrel aged porter with walnuts, i love this beer! for a brewery i have never heard of, this floored me pretty good. its a lighter bodied porter, still with all the dark malty and english ale yeast flavors i look for in this style, but its less body and bitter roast than is normal, which allows the walnuts to really pop in this. they dont smell like much but really contribute a lot to the flavor of the beer. there is a honey sweetness too, which is picked up on well by the barrel flavors, vanilla and oak. the body does seem a little thin in the finish, like it never really gets big enough for the flavors its pumping, but i almost like its drinkability for what it is. i thought this was one of the most unique beers i had in chicago this weekend. nutty and toasty and a different sort of holiday ale, do they bottle this? i would love to get my hands on some for christmas time.
