Wish I would have read the reviews of this fair site before purchasing, because this was an expensive drain pour. Shimmering brownish black with a tan ring. Smell has hot bourbon booze with big brown sugar and caramel, but then there is an oaky tone with off notes galore, the biggest being pickles. The taste is a hot booze fueled mess, sweet caramel and pickle stand out as they burn afterward, undrinkable. Feel is thin and hot, sticky and just breaks down in a nuclear meltdown kind of way.

I've never heard Temperance Beer Co before, but when I saw this one on Tavour and realized I had a bottle of Basil Hayden Toast at home, I figured it would be great for a side by side. The reviews for this beer do have me a bit nervous but hopefully I can enjoy it regardless. Let's get right into it
Pours almost completely pitch black with a finger of creamy light tan head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
Immediately the nose presents some odd off notes, but I can't say that I hate it. I'm picking up on aromas of toffee, milk chocolate, sweet bourbon, smooth oak, vanilla ice cream, brown sugar, light leafy hops, and a touch of diacetyl
It's similar in taste, still weird but rather gentle all things considered. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting brown sugar, caramel, red grape, toasted oak, vanilla bean, light molasses, and milk chocolate. The swallow brings notes of smooth oak, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, vanilla ice cream, burnt caramel, sweet whiskey, and light molasses
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes neutral and rather sweet
This beer left me more confused than disappointed, but certainly still a bit disappointed. Having the bourbon alongside it was also odd

Canned 10/24/23; drank 12/28/23 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque dark brown appearance.
An even pour yielded a small, noisy tan head; frothy, tree-rung lacing remained.
Dill, oak & faint cream notes in the nose. Not appealing.
Thick mouthfeel.
Dill, dry oak & faint strawberry flavors up front; bourbon heat notes emerged as this warmed.
The toasted barrels translated into dill abrasiveness; this was tough to finish. Not one I'd recommend.
