A delightfully tart Grapefruit Berliner Weisse infused with Jasmine Green Tea. Bit notes of citrus and floral jasmine. Serve with Tapioca Pearls for full experience!

This was a gift for Christmas 2023, drunk in April 2024.

L: Hazy yellow with chunks of what I hope is grapefruit flesh suspended in the liquid. There's a thin covering of bright white head. Some large-bubbled carbonation dodges the suspended particulate on the way up the glass.

S: Very sweet on the nose, with zesty grapefruit dominant and a weird, citrus-tea note. The can says Jasmine tea, so I'll assume that's it.

T: The first note is bright, sweet grapefruit. "Sweet" and "grapefruit" don't normally appear beside each other, but that's the only way to describe it. Retronsally, that citrusy/jasmine tea note comes out. It's overly sweet but counterbalanced by the zesty grapefruit note, and it closely treads the line of annoyingly cloying (try saying that fast five times). I think I would struggle to drink a second of these.

M: Carbonation is low, but carbonic prickle is quite high, giving more context to the bright, spritzy, but sweet grapefruit note. The prickle forces a quick swallow, and that might be the only thing keeping the taste from becoming overly cloying.

O: This is an experimental beer brewed for the Great Australian Beer Spectapular in 2023, so it's meant to push boundaries no self-respecting beer would approach, but only in small pours. Push boundaries this one does, but it pushes against one that many beers nudge, and in my opinion, it's one of the boundaries that beers should avoid. Overly sweet beers quickly become a chore to drink, and at 375mls, I was over this one before I was halfway finished.

Cheers!
