Brewed for GABS festival in Melbourne, May 2013. Actually have no idea whatsoever who these guys are, so complete blank slate going in.
Pours a mahogany colour, clear with foamy cream-beige head. Nice retention. Very dark for the style but still looks pretty nice.
Malty upfront. Quite caramelly, sweet but with a touch of rye spice, then US hops take over all fresh and fruity and inviting. Apple, peach, pear. Quite nice.
Taste is similar. Touch of cocoa from the malt with rye spice and caramel, then US hops own the mid and late-palate. Some citrus and stonefruit characters: peach and lemon. Finishes quite dry, but very nice.
Body is disappointingly thin, allows some carbonation through. No sign of the 6.5% though, to its credit.
Smooth palate, nicely hopped. A big surprise for me, actually. Pleasant.
