this is a decent beer, but a very poor example of the kolsch style. the look is wrong and the yeast is way wrong, but i still like the way it tastes a sort of a wit or hefe hybrid style. its real cloudy and thicker on the pour, two words never to be used while describing a kolsch. what happened here? there might even be some wheat in here. it holds a nice white head though, and if i was thinking wheat beer, it would look great. smells yeasty, again, not something that belongs in the style too much. it has an almost banana fruitiness to it, german sure, but wrong beer. maybe a mixup in the back on this? its hard to hate on it though, because it tastes pretty good. fresh cereal grain and the fruitiness of the yeast together with a slight tannic tang that makes it almost citrusy and very refreshing on the back end. its also on the dry side which i like, and as well carbonated as any beer i have had in here, so despite not being a kolsch at all, it is a highly drinkable and tasty beer. maybe they need to study up a bit on styles, but it appears their skills in the brew house are continuing to improve and expand.
