one of the best beers these guys have done to date. nice to see it back on tap down here. they have taken the basic and generic english brown ale that every american upstart seems to brew, and they have given it a huge face lift with some cool ingredients that really flatter it, and the result is a beer entirely distinct to this place. worth traveling for i think, it has no peers. almost a porter in appearance, definitely some darker barley malt in here, but thinner in terms of viscosity. the head is cream colored, tan after a minute, and lingering a bit. it smells hoppy. i think maybe some new zealand hops in here. thats where the "new" part comes from. i am informed that its australian ale yeast, which i really like in here. i feel like this strain only ever finds its way into pale ales and creams and blondes. nice to see what it can do with some darker grain. not way different, loosely english in taste, but drier and brighter for sure. well hopped in the flavor, less chocolate more roast from the malt, and a smooth dry finish, especially for the style. overall an excellent beer, one that stands out as innovative for a traditional english brewer, and one i cant wait to drink again. a marked improvement over some of the sometimes stagnant flavors in here. this is delicious!
