the girffin is one of my favorite beers these guys do. its a very drinkable smooth red beer at its base, but it has a heaping portion of pale rye malt added in, giving it just a little spicy kick on the back end, and a neat texture not normally found in red ales. lots going for it in the looks, holds an inch of just off white head, and has decent clarity. short of amber in color, but redder than caramel, looks nice. smells and tastes pretty rye forward, it definitely counteracts the sweetness of the crystal malt, and leads the charge there on the grain front. the spice sort of works with the grassy spicy hops, and the yeast isnt flavorless, although its hard to place with the other flavors in here. i like the feel the most, smooth and drawn out, but finishing on the drier side. well carbonated too. one of the more inventive and well executed beers down at the bob, and one with a loyal following from what i understand. very very sessionable, not sure the abv, but im sure its below 6%, its easy going for sure. nice use of rye in an unconventional way.
