this is a tasty brown ale for sure, a little darker and more sturdy than i am used to in the english styles, and which i think sets this apart from any peers. its deep brown in color and with quite a bit of body, likely wheat or oats or both in here underneath propping it up. aroma of cocoa powder from the chocolate malt, bready still fermenting english ale yeast which is a common flavor here in their maltier beers, and with a roasted element that makes this almost smell like an english porter rather than a brown. the flavor is good, rich and sweet from the grain for awhile, but resolved and more yeast flavored toward the end, chocolate and caramel and wet tobacco character, with some lingering sweetness like molasses there too. it has a dark bread character, a ton of flavor and a smooth body, texturally one of the better beers i have had in awhile. this is a nice brew, a great recipe, and one they should probably scale up and keep around. good to see this place making it work in a neighborhood that may not have been quite ready for a brewery when they opened up but now seems to have embraced the place!
