Galaxy Brewing Co. "Galactic Lawnmower"
16 fl. oz. can
$1.99 @ Kunda Beverage, King of Prussia, PA
Notes via stream of consiousness: What is the purpose of a craft brewery producing a light beer? Really? Can they compete given their limited volume output? Let's find out. It's poured a clear straw gold body beneath a ful head of bright white foam that 's holding quite well. The head on a Miller Lite could never last this long. There are lots of bubbles rising quickly below, bolstering the head. It's now down to about a half of an inch but it's actually holding - kudos! The aroma is surprisingly floral! I'm not really getting any malt beyond those floral hops but it's at least clean. On to the taste then... well, given the bright floral aroma the flavor is a bit of a let down but that's only because I let the aroma get my hopes up - it's a light beer and it tastes like a light beer. I can't tell if there are any adjuncts in use but I'm going to guess there might be as there's not a whole lot of malt to it. It's very basic, kind of watery, and a bit fruity. I'm not getting any lager yeast character, and a little bit of an ale yeast fruitiness but this was listed as a lager. Is there anything on the label? No, it just say "beer" with the "finest German malts and local New York State hops." Seeing as how they didn't mention any adjunct I'm going to go with 100% Pilsner malt but at a low gravity. The hops? Well, I don't know, but you could have fooled me - they're very nicely floral. There's even a touch of lemon in the flavor that makes this kind of a low-alc Pils. The head has held up, which is fantastic, but there's only limited lacing left behind. It's moderately bitter but with a mostly dry finish. It's not bitter, there's just enough to balance it and keep it dry. Given the amount of malt that's there they probably didn't need too many hops. I'm guessing this is around 5 to 8 IBUs. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and soft and smooth with a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation. All in all, as a light beer I find it hard to argue against. There are no calories or carbohydrates listed but it is low in alcohol. I would certainly take this over a mass produced light beer but at the same time we don't know what the specifications really are, and in all honesty the English have been producing beers of around this strength that have even more flavor for centuries.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
