Got this one at the Duvel Guy in Utrecht
From a can into a snifter
Collaboration with Metaldays for their 5th anniversary
Brewed with red beets
APPEARANCE: Comes out deep maroon or blood red in color and yields a one finger, medium looking, reddish or pink head with great retention. Head slowly fades to a frothy wisp and clings to the glass. Opaque dark maroon red / brown with no carbonation evident. Half wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass as it empties. Fun looking beer and solidly engineered.
SMELL: Nice, bold, hoppy nose with lots of pine, citrus, lemon, as well as a healthy dose of dark fruits as well. Cherries, grapes, blueberries and some hints of caramel as well. Pretty fun.
TASTE: Definite fruit component up front with dark grapes and blueberries in there, as well as some citrus and pine hop flavors as well. Some decent bitterness at the swallow with a bold and lingering finish of red and dark fruits, cherries and dark grapes mostly, piney and citrus hops, lemon, grapefruit, as well as some decent bitterness. A touch of tartness in there as well. This is delicious.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a little dry on the palate. Some bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: This is great! Poured out like a surprise but it was a nice surprise, and the rest of the experience was a nice surprise as well. Says its brewed with red beets, which I guess makes sense, but this it definitely comes across as a fruity IPA with enough hop goodness to go with the fruity flavors. A fun beer and plenty to think about while drinking. Really, really good stuff and definitely worth checking out it you get the chance. Recommended.
