Why a stout in 25 degree heat? Why not! Frankenstout is a rich and creamy Session Stout which is surprisingly easy drinking. Notes of black licorice and fine Italian espresso are hidden behind a roasty forward and a smooth, dry finish. 18 IBU.

Mine said 5% ABV on the label. At my lady Pamela's house; canned, from Small Batch Dispatch's 2024 Advent Calendar. My third from the St. Jacobs brewery, and first for 2025.

Nope. No monster here. Looks decent enough. Aroma of chocolate and charcoal, but just barely. A little roastiness. Thin-bodied, sourness up front, then giving way to sweet malt, almost cola-like. An odd duck somehow, but not a monster. Undistinguished.

Got this one at the brewery in St. Jacobs. Got a few of these actually, then went back and got more.
From a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.
IBU: 15
APPEARANCE: A clear dark brown pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with good retention. Head slowly fades to a nice cap and coats the sides of the glass. A transparent black body with no carbonation evident. A full faint wisp remains until the end leaving decent lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Roasted barley, chocolate and cacao powder on the nose. Sweet cream notes with touches of caramel and toffee as well. Creamy, roasted stuff. Bold as well. Nice.
TASTE: Roasted barley, toffee and chocolate notes up front. Flavorful beginning, with a bold finish of bitter coffee, cacao powder, toffee sweetness, sweet cream and roasted malts. Really flavorful and complex for the ABV. Satisfying as well.
PALATE: Medium-full body and medium levels of carbonation. Semi-creamy on the palate, enough weight, goes down smooth and finishes a touch mouth-coating.
OVERALL: Excellent stuff. Lots of flavor and character with very little alcohol. So good for the ABV that it inspired me to brew my own session stout, which also turned out great. Very much worth the trip and I hope there’s more of this next summer when I’m home. Cheers!
