4oz sampler from Hamilton Beer festival - August 23, 2014
Appearance - A bright but somewhat hazy golden beer, capped by a nice thin layer of head that had surprising staying power. Lots of lively bubbles are present.
Smell - Pink grapefruit makes an appearance here, maybe some lemon. Rather strong aromatics for a 3.8% beer.
Taste - A bunch more pink grapefruit and maybe some lemon. A surprising bitterness. The only problem is that the taste seems to get weaker after a few repeated sips.
Mouthfeel - here's where I noticed the 3.8% showed up the most and it felt thin and a bit flatter than expected. Carbonation was less active than anticipated and a bit limp overall.
Overall - Given that this was a trial batch - although the way it was being pushed it's probably effectively in beta testing this is a very nice and extremely sessionable APA, that would be easy to drink all afternoon. With a more robust mouthfeel, this could match up quite nicely with Muskoka's Detour and keep this local brewery on a the roll they've been on in recent months.
