Possibly the most unique beer drinking experience I've ever had. Looks like you'd expect for a beer with lactose and boysenberry puree, a pretty light purple color with decent white lacing. Smells really weird, like rosemary with a hint of sour fruit. Tastes kind of odd as well with moderate sourness and more herbal notes, but there is more of the boysenberry, especially after swallowing. Strange. The feel is unlike any other beer I've had. Very dry on the finish (surprisingly) and after swallowing it feels like everything disappears, flavor/liquid/and all. I realize that contradicts what I said earlier, but both are true. Really an enigmatic beer but fascinating and fun to drink.

Pours a cloudy pink/red color. 1/3 inch head of an off-pink color. Decent retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong fruit, hint of salt. slight bacterial funk, hint of lactic acid, and a hint of sweet malt. Fits the style of an American Wild Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is a noticeable tartness. Tastes of fruit, hint of salt. slight bacterial funk, hint of lactic acid, and a hint of sweet malt. Overall, good aroma and blend, but weak body and average appearance and feel.

Well crafted, simple, and packs a lot of flavor. The beauty is derived from the simplicity, has only a few pieces, but they all go a long way. Boysenberry tartness goes perfectly with the kool-aid like sweetness of the underlying ale with the lactose. Light, crisp, tart, wonderful for a cooler summer day while playing bocce ball.

Collective Arts BOYOBOY Boysenberry Breakfast Sour: I was recommended this one by a craft drinking buddy, yes I’m not a fan of sours, but my mate told me this is a light sour with a decent amount of sweetness. Plus I’ve heard the colour of this brew is bitchen, also I look for any opportunity I can to use the word “bitchen” so it’s a win-win. I should mention that this brew is a collaboration between Collective Arts and Stillwater Artisanal. It contains flaked oats as well as lactose (the breakfast in the name)… oh yeah, and boysenberry puree. The label art is pretty interesting as well, it’s like a pink/purple liquid oozing out of itself, weird. Label art is something that Collective Arts are known for AFAIK.

Poured from a 473ml can into a Duvel tulip.

A: Huh, looks almost exactly the same as my last beer review: To Øl Mr. Pink 2018 Edition – deep opaque purple body with a creamy pink head, maybe slightly darker than Mr. Pink in the body. How bizarre is that? Two beers in a row with this unique a colour, well played sirs! 9/10.

S: Very boysenberry-driven aroma, tart and slightly sweet, with very little else standing out – this is a boysenberry fiesta. Hints of cherry and forest berries present in further whiffs. If you like anything mixed berry then this is a beery good berry to drink… err, something along those lines. The only complaint I can level with BOYOBOY is a lack of aroma diversity: it’s all about the berries here. 8/10.

T: Yep, boysenberries all over this – if you’re a fan of boysenberries you’ll be in boysenberrydise with BOYOBOY. Hints of morello cherry, raspberry and forest berries round out a berry berry experience. Mid-palate has sweetness that’s followed by a nice level of tartness in the finish. The balance is well done and this beer overall reminds me of a bowl of Greek yoghurt with boysenberries – a healthy breakfast. 8/10.

M: Medium bodied with a dense/sorta-flat carbonation. The body is good, carbonation: could do with a touch more though. 7/10.

D: This is a solid sweet and sour breakfast beer. It’s not exciting, however it was enjoyable, and for me: not too sour at all. I can imagine fans of really sour beers might find this a bit middling and sweet – you know who you are really sour fans, this might not be the beer for you. A decent first beer from Collective Arts (and Stillwater Artisanal), cheers CA/SA! 8/10.

Food match: This would make a great palate-cleansing dessert beer: cheesecake it!

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a thick purple cloudy color with a small cap of a little white foamy head. Light lace slid along the sides in a slight messy sort of way.
The aroma has some boysenberry puree up front, quite sweet with a sly snap of what I'm assuming the seed they left in there. Touch of citrus and a dose of lactose trying to balance.
The flavor was all about the boysenberry. Seed-like snappy graininess is there. Citrus adds a touch of bitterness, slight tartness. Light lactose sweetness. The aftertaste was boysenberry and lactose.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation was fairly low. ABV felt on par. Boysenberry sweet and tart finish.
Overall, very nice sweet and sour fruited sour. I'd have again and not necessarily for breakfast, but this could make a nice dessert beer in the Summer.

16oz can. Pours a purpley maroon color with over an inch of frothy pink head. Good amount of lacing. Sweet, fruity aroma of berries and candy. Maraschino cherries and maybe a hint of citrus. The taste is tart with lots of berry flavor. The Mosaic hops blend well with the boysenberry. Lemon peel with a sweet finish. Medium body with lots of carbonation. Good mix of sweet and sour. I wasn’t sure I’d like this beer but it’s definitely a winner.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch light pink head over a deep reddish-purple body with fleeting lacing. Head dissipates down to a ring in a few minutes. Nose of boysenberry and slight hops. Tastes of boysenberry jam with an ever so slight bitterness from the mosaic hops. A perfect marriage of sweet and sour, damn this is good! Nice feel and overall this reminds me a bit of a berry sherbet being more of a dessert beer than a breakfast beer, but breakfast would work nicely as well. Nice job from our friends up north in Hamilton, Ontario. Cheers!
