Collaboration with Verdant Brewing Co

Some relationships are more special than others, and we love our relationship with Verdant Brewing from the U.K. We teamed up to create a pretty unique concoction; an Imperial Gose with a huge amount of Plums, Apricots, and Raspberries. The tartness of the fruit is balanced with Sea Salt & Coriander for an extremely refreshing - and special - brew.

Fruit salad smell and taste with a hint of salt. Almost no aftertaste and no visible traces of alcohol despite being 8 ABV.

Happy New CANned Collab Beer Sunday (Week 770) as I try to get out from under the backlog here at Chez Woody. It is a real boon for The CANQuest (tm), but I have pretty much stopped buying more beer for the meantime.

From the CAN: "Imperial Gose brewed w/Plum, Apricot, Raspberry Himalayan Salt & Coriander"; "Art: Sergio Vazquez San Juan, Puerto Rico"; "Unfiltered Keep Cold".

That last meant that I had free license to do some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent. I also employed a more heavy-handed C-Line Glug than usual, resulting in a pseudo-cascade. This took a little while to settle into two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, pinkish head that looked like freshly-spun cotton CANdy. I was really impressed by its head retention since such rarely happens in/with this style. Color was a murky, turbid Magenta (SRM = N/A). Nose smelled redolently of raspberries & salt! 8=O Mouthfeel was medium, big for the style. The taste was quite tart, driven by the raspberries, but backed up by the salt & coriander. I didn't really perceive that plums & apricots, but there was a LOT going on with this one, to the point that it was tough to parse one flavor from another. This put me in mind of a salted fruit smoothie, which is not a bad thing. The fruit was an inspired addition in this case & I am a big fan of saltiness, so what was not to like? Yum. Finish was quite dry, lightly puckering & nicely tart. It hid its 8.0% ABV well, making it a little too drinkable for comfort. This was CANother impressive beer from this CANadian brewery! YMMV.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 9/30/2019. Pours very hazy deep ruby red/orange/pink/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy plums, apricot, raspberry, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, sea salt, coriander, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of plum, apricot, raspberry, fruity/acidic yeast, sea salt, coriander, and pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy plums, apricot, raspberry, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, sea salt, coriander, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and coriander spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy plums, apricot, raspberry, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, sea salt, coriander, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light toast, peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of plum, apricot, raspberry, fruity/acidic yeast, sea salt, coriander, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/sour/spiciness and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, sticky/acidic/tangy/tannic, and fairly saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is a fantastic imperial fruited gose. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of plum, apricot, raspberry, fruity/acidic yeast, sea salt, coriander, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish. Nicely soft and not overly lactic/salty. Fantastic balance of super juicy/jammy fruit, coriander, salt, and lacto complexity; with a nice sized wheat/malt backbone against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example as expected.
