500ml bottle from the brewery. Served cold into a snifter.
Appearance - Pours a s viscous black liquid and topped with a half finger of brown head once in the glass. Modest staying power and no lacing to speak of. Eradicates light.
Smell - plenty of orange with some cedar wood for nuance. Sufficiently fruity. Some roastiness but the fruit really stands out.
Taste - Roasty initially with plenty of sweetness from the orange, then the wood kicks in adding depth to the flavor. There's hits of milk chocolate before a long herbaceous finish with some more wood and roasted malts thrown in. Trace smoke as well.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied with low carbonation. Lighter and less chewy than the other OoD 24 creation, but still substantial. Booze levels held in check, but you can feel it at the back of the throat.
Overall - Big strong and bitter brew with some sweet undertones makes for a balanced and tasty treat, the wood aspect pulls everything together and pairs brilliantly with the bitter orange. Very good Origin of Darkness rendition and my favorite of the two from the 2024 batch.
