Bottle from the source. This one a big enhancement from their base stout and a major improvement on the Darkness series. Hot peppers. Orange peel. Bourbon barrel. Vg

500 ml bottle from the brewery. Served well chilled into a trappist glass.
Appearance - Thick and viscous, pours with no discernable head and only the smallest of brown collars. Pitch black. Appears what you'd expect out of a 24 proof stout.
Smell - Orange, bitters, citrus with some roasty notes in behind. Subtle wood and vanilla notes. It does in fact smell like an old fashioned. Sweet suggestion of maraschino cherry syrup.
Taste - Complex. Wood, vanilla, orange zest, possibly a pinch of lemon, marashino cherry syrup, with some leather, low bitterness coming in on the back end. Depth to the wood with a faint hint of smoke. Not hot or boozy. There's chocolate interlaced with all this but it's quite subtle until it gets its turn near the end of each sip and into the aftertaste. Sweetness builds up after a few sips.
Mouthfeel - Thick and viscous, very low carbonation, chewy and while the booze is present, it's not overly so. Good warming in the back of the throat.
Overall - A true sipper of a stout, this one is real good, but due to the intense weight of this beer, probably best shared two ways. Stacks up well in the Origin of Darkness Pantheon.
