Hey while I'm reviewing beers that I had at Eclipse 2017, lets hit this one up. Shared by the owner/brewer/employee or someone affiliated with the brewery. Seemed like a cool dude.
Looked nice, when you're an upstart brewery, and you bring a barrel aged stout to the Eclipse party, you better be ready. But this one could hang in the appearance department, it was black, thick and poured with a brown head that would extrapolate to around 1/2" in a normal drinking vessel. Aroma had the big whiskey notes, charred chocolate malt and wood, the prototypical smells in this style.
Taste was a big beer, seemed to have ample bitterness, seemed like a hefty amount of C hops for this one, might be around 85ibu if I was guessing. Its a big beer, I can taste alcohol plenty well, but its not oppressive, I mean, its 12% you're not gonna cover that up especially without adjuncts. Very very light sweetness, possibly rye based whiskey.
Overall its a pretty good beer. Hell I think given the good nature of the guy sharing, I'd buy another bottle on that stewardship alone. No off flavors here.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
