Notes: Pt Bonita is our Bohemian Pilsner. It’s nice and spicy from the rye, 14%, and it has just enough noble hop character and body from the rustic grains. It’s light, crisp, refreshing and it’s named after the Point Bonita Lighthouse in the Headlands, in case you couldn’t figure that out on your own.

Not a bad pale lager. I would drink this again.

This is another brew I picked upon my vacation to the bay area. Simple, white, tall boy can. It is kind of nothing specal in the nose but has a reasonable Saaz bite that pairs with the crisp texture to make this one decent.

This is not exciting or groundbreaking stuff but it does the Czech pilsner thing well enough.

Not much foam in the wine glass but the golden amber brew is decent looking. Kind of a musty and flowery scent.

Pleasant resiny taste with a tangy finish. Moderate bitterness but rather sweet, like a malt liquor with some hops.

From the 16 oz can purchased at Healthy Spirits in San Francisco.

Pours a finger of head on a clear golden body.
The aroma is mostly honey and some dry grain.
The taste has a mild bitter start, honey sweetness and rye spice in the middle, finishes with a mild bitter note.
The texture is light and fizzy.
Quite nice.

From a tall boy can.
This pours a pale straw-gold in the glass with decent, if short lasting, foam.
There’s a pleasing aroma that showcases the malt, with its gentle rye notes giving an almost “warm bread”-like hint to the pleasant hop kiss. I found it equally pleasing and enjoyable as I sipped, with the bready rye and touch of hops playing nice together. More easy-going than complex and challenging, and all sorts of enjoyable. For what it was and what it set out to do, I liked it.

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and grass aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, rye, and grass flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a solid hop presence that makes this one tasty and easy to drink.

a nice glass of lager, although maybe not as rustic as they market it as being. i expected a little more grain character here, although its more robust than most, and still a most excellent beverage overall. a shade or two darker than the standard here, still golden and clear, but just a little richer in the glass. it smells like dry pale barley malt, less of the bready pils grain complexion here, and maybe even a pinch of rye to boot, but its hard to tell because its all so clean in the taste. even though it has some body, the rustic grains they talk about dont taste like all that much, and the yeast dries it out quickly enough to be not all that interesting on the back end where these things usually manifest themselves. decent structure here, solid body, more than normal for the style, but i definitely wish for more carbonation. it pours lively enough, but it seems to dissipate out of suspension a little too quickly leaving a flatter brew that doesnt have much drive. aside from that though, its a tasty lager, with some real yeast character and some density, and although i wish it had more of the rustic grain elements they describe, i liked it quite well my first from these guys, on tap at bartlett hall in san francisco.
