a collaboration with tommyknocker, which seems like an unlikely pairing, but the beer they came up with is a good one, really bold on all the flavors, but well built for sure. its a rye heavy ipa with some mexican coffee, and these elements are all full force. the beer is hazy with a little brown accent to it, coffee likely blended in post fermentation. aroma shows a lot of earthy dark roasted coffee, bitter and intense, especially with the heavy leafy green freshness and intensity of the hops, which have plenty of bitterness as well. the rye is intense in the flavor here, they must have used a lot of it, its spicy and big, did not expect it to work so well with the coffee, but really it does. they seem to bring out some nuance in each other to the extent that both elements taste a little different and fuller than they normally do in beer of any kind. the hops are almost over the top, especially with the coffee already providing some bitter, its on the edge of too much, really dense in flavor and bitterness, with some oils in here too that kind of remind me of the dry hopped cold brew coffee at corvus, which i hold in the very highest regard. this is a powerful beer because all of the elements are very assertive, but they work nicely together. the hops could be scaled back to improve rate of consumption, but i like it how it is...
