this is done in woodford reserve double oaked bourbon barrels this year, and it might be my favorite of the various devils abyss variants i got to try this week. i think this particular whiskey is right for the beer, lots of wood and barrel char to it, which i think does a decent job of balancing out some of the over the top sweetness that is so intense in the other versions. there is just a bit more bitterness here from it, and i think the heavy wood mellows out some of the residual sugar too. still strong notes of molasses and candy sugar, as well as some sweet chocolate. this is really big beer, overly boozy, but in this version, the whiskey does a good job of making it feel more complete, more complex and balanced to me, the one i could probably drink the most of. still a raisin or date note here, strong vanilla, and a concentrated malt heaviness. i still dont think this is overly well refined, just way too sweet for me, but this one is a level above the others in my opinion. cool they have a number of these on tap at once right now!
