probably the worst of the many beers we had in here this week. a wet hopped strong rye beer, i wanted a lot more from this, and was glad i elected for the half pour after just one sip. its light amber colored, a little bit hazy, and with a lazy looking airy white head slowly settling back. it smells like dry rye malt up front, a little something richer and sweeter, and a kind of weird hop complexion that doesnt really fit. i am learning that i dont love hops from colorado, especially in a wet hop context, and i assume these were grown in state, although i cant confirm. the grain profile seems really simple for how strong this is, almost too light in flavor, and i dont get as much rye as i thought i would from the smell, it seems almost watered down to me, yet there is still a little sweetness and the alcohol still comes through, seems like too much without more malt flavor to it. the hops are subtle too, grassy but not as right in the mix as in their other wet hop beer they had on. understated, earthy, and maybe clashing a bit with the rye in here. a beer like this should work, but the execution here is pretty weak. objectively speaking, this was the least good beer we had in here. overall though, these guys have come a real long way over the years, and this is more an aberration than something indicative of their overall quality in here right now...
